TRACK NOTES

One of the songs I originally looked at when I started collecting them for this album, but I put it to one side. It re-appeared when I was working on the Glasgow Gaelic Song Trail this year for the European Championships, and having recorded it for a soundscape along the riverside (the Broomielaw quay being the most famous stretch), we took it one step further and brought it back into play here. I love MacFadyen’s comic vignettes, playing to his audience as would maybe have heard this at something like the Penny Readings in Ingram Street. The recorded verses are in bold – they use a metre that really suits comic songs with its ‘punchline’ half-line at the end of each verse. The original soundscape was created by Gaby Le Bigot, a young Breton sound artist and son of a great musical friend, Gilles, and developed for the album by Nick.
